How to get the whole body in focus?

i had a chance to snap this bug just outside my office door today; but i just couldn't get the full body in focus. what am i doing wrong? i'm using the minolta 100mm macro.

i think u have to move backwards
 

stop down your aperture.try shoot in F8 and above.
 

no need the same object,anything small will do.
Practice more.;)
 

Hi pal,

It is simply OOF and hand shake to me on your picture. Did you use AF or MF when composing the shot? Can't really tell the effect of f-stop here but you definitely need to shoot at a higher speed or a tripod for your "long-exposures" if your model is still posing for you. By the way, it is a Long-legged fly I believe.

Keep it up and I believe you get most of the thing correct except for a little bit fill flash to light up your main subject.
