can anyone shed some light on this? can't seem to locate it, tks

is there a focal length to hyperfocus at every F/stop?

You can't locate it because the hyperfocal distance varies with focal length.

As such, it is difficult to include depth-of-field markings on a zoom lens, such as your 17-55mm.

The rule of thumb is to focus 1/3 of the way into the scene. Yes, it's not 100% accurate but it's good enough, considering that you don't need to calculate anything.

It also depends on which camera you're using. For Nikon and Fujifilm DSLRs, there is a table which I got from Nikonians webbie.

Generally, if you're using a standard f11 then at :

17mm - 1.3m
20mm - 1.8m
24mm - 2.5m
28mm - 3.5m
35mm - 5.4m

tks for all your help, will go try it out...

Er, quite easy to calculate actually.

The formula to find Hyperfocal Distance is:

Sq of Focal Length
------------------ (mm)
CoC x Aperture

where CoC (Circle of Confusion) for your D80 is 0.02, and Aperture is f/stop number.

In the field, if your hp is without a calculator function, use Denosha's method which is fairly workable.
