I have a bagful of spent batteries and want to dispose them properly. Because of the mercury content, I shouldn't just chuck them into the garbage bin. So what (and where) is the proper way to dispose them. Any ideas?

There was an article I rad no too long ago when this topic was brought up I think last month in here. Conventional batteries like the one you might have like those AA or AAA..etc They are said to be safe for disposing in the usual way that is throwing them into the rubbish bin.

A local govt representative said companies that bring in batteries to sell in Singapore has to meet certain standard to ensure harmful substance used to make those battery are kept to a minimum..eg Mercury.

You can read more on this at this link:

I wrote to NEA last year, and put their reply up on CS (since I'm sure we're all heavy battery users). You can refer to the last few posts in this thread: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=282617&page=2

So basically you can just throw them with other trash. I'd have like to recycle them, but there wasn't any battery recycling bin that I could find... :dunno:
