How to bring tripod during travel?

Can I bring a tripod into the plane? Anybody tried before?

My tripod won't fit inside my luggage, so if I put it in the baggage area, I'll have to pay for extra luggage?

Any suggestion?

Anyway, I think I got my answer already.

haha you can always carry your tripod onto the plane but preferably with a bag and all to avoid the stares...
