I am talking about digital SLR (D100, D60, D30...etc.)

When you buy digital SLR and decided to go into digital, do you upgrade your computer (monitor, hardisk, ram, processor, CD-writer...), get a photo printer, buy software (adobe photoshop), etc. Do you take into these consideration or just buy the digital SLR (D30/D60) first...and upgrade the computer later...or just print in shop and not at home...

i think my computer are good enough for most work already

for printing...i will rather send to shop to do it cos i seldom need to print

for software......not neccessary have to buy rite...

i think it is camera accessories which cost more than computer accessories....

Ok most of the $$$ will go into the accessories.

But what i think is that you need a
1. at least a 800Mhz CPU
2. 512MB Ram
3. 30GB HDD
4. 17" monitor

Well that compute to abt 1k

Now let talk abt the DSLR...

Body : $3.5-$4K
Storage : $500 (1GB MD)
extra batt : $100-$120

Lens....
Depending on what you get (based on Canon)

50/1.8 : $100-$130
70-200/2.8 : $1.2K-2.4K
16-35 : $2.4K

now...
with respect to the accessories,
the PC pale in comparsion.

i agree...the $$ i spend on my 4 computers over tha past 5 years added up still cheaper than a 2nd hand DSLR body

Wow...that means buying into digital SLR meaning also upgrade in computer, storage system...etc. Can't have budget on DSLR only, must have extra 50% on accessory...

hmm. let me think,
if i got 500 dollars, I will consider to save till 1.2k for G2
But when i got 1.2k I will consider to save till 2.4k for D30
But when i got 2.4k I will consider to save till 3.75k for D60
But when i got 3.75k I will consider to save till 10k for 1D
when i got 10k, I will put it in bank and don't spend it..

actually i kinda disagree... yes it's nice to have a 800Mhz system to process your images but it's not really necessary. like your camera system, it all depends on what you wanna do with it. if u're pro, then of course you should invest in something more powerful to speed up processing time (like a Mac G4), but if you're just doing some serious tinkering (like me), a average PC will do (mine is a 400Mhz system and i run Photoshop LE on it). that's usually enough for most tasks. just get a bit more RAM if you find it very slow.

of course, if u're getting a new system anyway, PCs now are cheap as dirt. can get a decent system easily for $1K+, including monitor. :D
