Ok this is a good test of knowledge for all shutter bugs out there. Whether it's DSLR, SLR, Medium Format and Larger Format. I find some CS members do not even know the basics knowledge of camera equivalent lengths of each format. Tell the truth! If you don't know just admit but I guess there is plenty out there would not admit they do not know but would rather say that they are "KNOWLEDGABLE ENOUGH".

What is a standard lens for Medium Format? How about the Large format? Everyone knows 35mm is 50mm. DSLR is around 33.33 (except of course Canon 1Ds is equivalent to a 35mm format CCD)

If you cannot even answer this, you better go back to your mommy. Some even dare to give lessons without knowing the camera format. So sad! Whether or not you actually use the Large format is another story. This is a basics.

If you can answer straight away without looking at some references or going through the net to find out the standard lens of the MF and LF, I would say you are half way there. Congratulations!

NO BANAL TALK. NO EXCEPTION! No explainations. Just say yes or no. Simple as that. If you think that this post is rather offensive to your ego, just stay away. I only want to know who knows and who don't. Don't ask questions as this is a yes and no thread only.

Thank you!

I'll be the first to answer, very honestly, that i don't know. All i know is to press button and move dials. :sweatsm:

Oh..and btw, i still live with mommy and daddy. So no need to travel that far.

Plenty of other small formats around.

DSLR

Vary a great deal, from 24x36mm to about 2.5x (smaller) and plenty in between.

Medium
6x45
6x6
6x7
6x8(fujifilm Gx-680III)
6x9 (fujifilm Gw-690III)

Also 6x12 and 6x17, and Fuji aren't the only ones that make a 6x9. Plenty of 6x9 systems around.

Large format
4x5
8x10

Also 5x7, 11x14, 20x24.

digital back
not sure abt the rest , I only know that the leaf 22 fit the full 645 frame

Plenty of these around too.

And specialist formats, like 135W cameras (Xpan, different MF backs with different panoramic dimensions, Noblex type), 120W cameras, banquet cameras, etc.

Ultimately listing is a pointless exercise there are way too many to list. I have a good inkling what the standard lens on many formats are, but ultimately if you can rattle off standard focal lengths for every format ever made, then you're not knowledgeable, you're sad. Hope I haven't insulted anyone.

U made it sound like this forum is or should only be for people who know the answer to your question. There are many types of shutter bugs, u know, e.g. those deep in the abyss, the passionate ones, the interested but can be detached ones, and those who are keen and still have other things to do in life as well and who may or may not care about your question.

Ok, I'd better escape from this thread, since I don't qualify to be here. :blah:

Hiee.....

As part of the Knowledge base nature of CLUBSNAP. Please do not waste the bandwidth just to challenge others on their level of knowledge.

My personal take on this is, it would be beneficial for all Clubsnap newbies or even regulars if you could just provide the info in a "educating" approach rather than a Challenge approach.

Have a great week ahead.

Regards,
Sulhan

Right on Jed, Sulhan

I can tell you straight away, that I don't know these stuff.

My basis of photography is more about composition.

How do we answer Yes or No to such a broad question (in fact, in that one line you have 2 questions already, and I only know the answer for one of them (MF std lens is ard 75-80mm) and I don't know the std lens for LF ... so I have to answer Yes AND No.

:D

Perhaps you meant this thread as a test for newbie members (even old birds like myself) to find out more about the basics of photography, but like Sulhan has mentioned, it may be going about the wrong way.

It would be better to demonstrate and share YOUR knowledge by giving that information out and then inviting discussion rather than challenging people to prove that they know or do not know.

Heh so if u know the entire list of formats, is this poll supposed to be a boost to your ego?

Btw if it makes u happy, I dunno but I dun feel any dent to my ego! Duh!

Don't ask questions? Why not? You seem to have the approach of a dictator - we got to accept your views 100% and not even question? Hullo???

Thank you!

i ticked the 3rd option "Eh, what is that?", so that means i cannot even answer. do i have to go back to my mommy?

i'm not a pro photographer, just a weekend hobbyist who owned some photography equipments, and i'm also a CS member here, participating in the forums...does your questions or "challenge" target simple hobbyists like me too? or your intention is to "challenge" other pro photographers, which you think are not as knowledgable as you are?

har?....... wat?....... :dunno:

I'm not alone right? :D

I know the answer to both your qns. Then again, so what? There are still a lot of stuff I still do not know.

I tend to agree that one needs to know at least about the system u r using. I believe many pple here have come across the qns u have asked, but just do not commit it to memory. That's their choice and there is nothing right or wrong about it.

The word "format" is confusing enough for most people. Looking at the qns u posted, you are either not specific enuff (thus asking very generic qns thus can have many ans), or you are not even that well versed yourself in this knowledge u deemed as basic.

Don't know, don't care.
If it makes you sleep well at night that you do know, then congrats to you! :vhappy:

Honestly, how is this going to change the quality of the shots I take with my DSLR?

   to ghibli and Sulhan for their inteligent responses.

Teach those who knows not ..

Enrich those who knows part ..

Learn from those who knows all ..

... I think this is a major portion of CS judging from all the communique that I have came across in the forum, especially from the moderators!
