I am thinking is it good to have a general purpose 18mm-200mm instead of bringing so many lenses out?

i think alot ppl using 50mm f1.8, is it good for portraits?
How much is it?

It depends on what I am shooting. Paid shoot, or for leisure.

Sometimes I bring out just 1 50mm lens to force myself to think harder about my shots. Other times I bring 3 or 4 lenses to cover an event/wedding.

And yes, generally 50mm f/1.8 lenses are a great buy.

Hi sin77

While the 18-200mm is a good all purpose lens for walkaround and travelling, the other lenses have different strengths that can be useful for other situations

There is no fix answer to what each of us carry along for trips and varies with shooting styles and habits.

Yes the 50mm 1.8 can be used for portraits, also useful in low light situations.

Here is a CS Nikon pricelist that you can take reference.

I usually do travel. the 18-200mm VR lens is the one I usually use, and sometimes, its the only lens I bring out. Other times, I use the Tokina 12-24mm for those close-up wide angle shots, and I try to shoot with the 50mm/f1.8 too.

I still have all my kit lens and the 70-300mm G lens which I hardly use anymore.
