Just curious, because I pronounce it as "Nee-Con" while my friend likes to pronounce it as "Nai-Con"... On local ads, I heard it as "Nee-Con" while for overseas ads, it's "Nai-Con"...

Nee-kon is the correct one.

The correct and authentic pronunciation is NEE-CON, with NEE as short word.

Americans and probably europeans will pronounce is as NAI-CON as in the word NIKE (nai-key).

I agree. The Caucasians have a different way of pronouncing the Japanese word. Nikon is actually a Japanese word, btw.

Contrastingly, as for Nike, maybe some Japanese will pronounce it as (Nic Kay), as their hiragana in romaji is pronounced that way.

Both are right.

The name Nikon, which dates from 1946, is a merging of Nippon Kōgaku (日本光学: "Japan Optical") and an imitation of Zeiss Ikon. Nikon is pronounced differently around the world. The Japanese pronunciation of the name is /nikoɴ/, but in the United States people also use /ˈnaɪkɒn/ and /ˈnɪkɒn/.

9 Corn is the way i pronounce it sometimes.
Sometimes i pronounce it as Ni Corn

hmm ... does it matter how it pronus ? Nee con, 9 con,or whatever name you can think of, ppl still know what you are talking about.

9 con means 'not against' if a German hears it, while nee con for a Frenchman can mean a lady previously known as 'con'. ;)

I always thought that when locals say "nai-con", they're just trying to sound a bit atas.

Why should it be pronounced in any other way when the company itself calls it Nee-con? Just because the Americans pronounce it that way doesn't make it right.

Then how you pronounce "Nihon".
Nee-Hon or Nai-Hon? :bsmilie:

Mad der in Jep Pon...so this is a no brainer one, let see we already have...

Nee Sun car
Nee porn paint
Nee Horn Gor
Nee Seen Noodler

So it got to be

Nee corn Camera

sama sama so long as people get the idea of what you're saying, who cares?

Its not about right or wrong. Its acceptability thats matters in different environments. At the end of the day, Both pronuciation means the same thing, thats most important.

In my own opinion.

Pronounce it however you want as long as you don't pronounce it canon.

lol. i walked past 2 uncles and they called Nikon 'lupsup'. but of cos, these happens to all brands. :bsmilie:
