How do you finance your own camera gear?

As above, where do you guys get the money to buy your camera gear?

For me, mostly from my savings earned from my own job (non-photography related). Save save save and then buy, usually one item at a time and stretch it out so that its not so painful on the wallet.

A word of advice: do not be tempted by the "Buy buy buy" syndrome here, though the urge is very strong, and set your options to "hide" the Buy and Sell forums whenever you login, to reduce temptation. (can it be done in CS? lol :bsmilie: )

I have a pretty neat arrangement. I have an equipment pool with my dad, I contribute 50%, he contributes 50%. Right now, he owns the digital body, while I own about 80% of the lenses. Guess it pays off to have more than one person in your family interested in photog.
