Hi,
In the past, I was so contended to have just a point-&-shoot (PNS) but since 3 years ago after I had classes about basic photography and having a chance to use an SLR, I feel like some kind of dork, so happy with just a PNS all these years.
Started with buying a P&S for a holiday and taking snaps. Got more interested after seeing the pics. Read books, magazines. Influenced by friends. Upgraded gear... first SLR, then digi (coolpix) then finally DSLR.
Only pick up photography recently. More of a audio than visual guy for most of my life, until last year when I'm forced to look at things under the microscope for more than 8 hours a day for approximately 4 months. Then I realise that the world is really interesting visually as well! So, decided to jump into photography since January 2004 and only about to get my first SLR system. Hope to pick up pointers from all the veterans here!
Picked up when i was working in a school, started with a Sony Mavica which belongs to school. Got addicted to shooting that i decide to buy my first digital camera. A Sony Cybershot 505....well..those were the days.
Worked with a friend who was a pro wedding photographer for about 7 years through high school and university time for pocket money as PA. Learnt 'on the job' I guess.... now my style change a lot from studio etc into more nature and architectural. I'm new to Singapore scene, so starting a folio all over again!
i think i started photography in the most stupid way. :embrass: at one of the chalet my fren bought a digicam along and i juz keep playing with it non stop. so... that led me deeper and deeper
Started after joining JC Photographic Society (cos got to get into a major ECA pt :bsmilie: ) ..... fell in love with it ....
spent my all life-time saving (since Piggy Bank and stamps passbook days ... ) ... got myself a Canon A-1 SLR with 28-80mm lens ...
came home and got this from mum ...
"What have you done to all yr savings !!! you are crazy ... you know how long you had been savings ... and for this camera ? "
Its was alot for a camera >$1,000 in 1980s.
But since then .... no regrets .....
 if kept the $1k for 20 yrs ... now is abt $10k ... and get a D10 system now? then all my memories gone liao ....
Thank you d7t3 for introducing me to photography, and being the first critic of my first (terrible) pictures.
Joined CJ's then Photography Club because being school editor of The Steeple in IJ has made me want to learn how to take good pictures. (most of the pictures submitted by the IJ AVA Club wasn't very usable for the magazine) Dropped my first love, drama, in favour for photography. I don't regret it, since I'll never be able to put up with the bitching in the Drama Society.
My training was during school events, on school film, on school cameras and school budget. ;p I was an expensive one to train, I remember.
Thank you Wolfie for introducing me to Clubsnap. If I haven't met you that day in Botanic Gardens (while trying to take a picture of that lizard-- that ^$@@# woman chased it away), photography would have just been a passing fad for me after I left JC.
