Hot pixels

Does hot pixels always appear in same location? Some of my photos(80%) tuens out to have a bright dot while soem does not. I suspect its a dead pixel but not too sure about it. How do we check the dead pixel in the CCD?
The LCD is too small to take note of the dead pixel.
