These are fairly easy to photograph along stream banks in eastern Colombia. They have a number of unusual features. One is that the chicks have claws on their wings. The nests are over water and should a carnivore climb the tree the chicks jump out of the nest into the water. With their wing claws they climb back up to the nest when the danger is gone. As the chicks develop into adults they loose those claws.
