My country, Canada, is listed as 2nd on the list. The newspaper that did this survey (Globe and Mail) is Canada's national newspaper.... coincidence? Hmmm....
I lived in Hong Kong for 3 years before coming to Singapore. I never felt that I was discriminated there and felt very comfortable with the locals. I made a lot of friends and enjoyed my stay very much. I am surprised that Hong Kong faired so poorly on this survey.
There are many Hong Kong people living in Canada, especially in Vancouver and Toronto. In fact, so many have immigrated, that Chinese has become the 3rd most spoken language in the country (after English and French). The Hong Kongers who have come to Canada seem to have integrated very well and have contributed a lot to the country.
As much as I liked Hong Kong, I have to admit, that I prefer Singapore as a place to live. People here are more laid back than Hong Kongers and English is widely spoken. My only problem is the unbearable heat but that cannot be helped. Singapore has to be the safest place I've ever lived anywhere on earth. Singaporeans have a great thing going here and all citizens should be proud of the accomplishments they've made. Even though the entire country could easily fit within the borders of the City of Toronto, it has the wealth and prestige of a much larger nation.
