You see, I'm just trying to take indoor available-light-only pictures of my kids
Pictures of our babies look horrible!
Yeah, that's all the P&S can do indoor.
Can we get a better camera?
Sure, let's get a DSLR!
So, I got the 40D + 17-55 + free 50/1.8 during some show.
Some time later:
Hmm, noisy ISO1600. May be some flash would be good.
Can't use flash on kids!
Hey look, the new 5D2 at ISO3200 looks awesome!
Added 5D2 + 24-105. Intending to sell the 40D + 17-55.
Hmm, 24-105 is only f4 and there is no IS on the 24-70/2.8.
50/1.4 and 85/1.8 came along.
I miss the 2.8.
You can just use the 85/1.8.
But the zoom is more convenient.
Ok, I'll just leave the zoom on the camera.
And stop changing the mode to M!
Well, the above didn't exactly happen. But it is a lot easier to justify camera purchases if they are for taking pictures of your kids.
In fact, the 5D2 mostly stays at home so that my wife can take pictures of the kids whenever she wants to, which is pretty often. And oh, don't mess with the settings. It is in Av mode + jpeg + evaluative metering.
The 40D lives in my car, manual + raw + spot metering.
My favourite combo is the 5D2 + 85/1.8 though. Great for indoor pictures of young kids.
