Hello all,

Wonder if I have been hit by a virus. All of a sudden, I cannot open big jpg, psd or any kind of files(eg., 2000x3000 pixels). No error messages whatsoever, it just does nothing!

However I can still open files of 600x400 in size.

Anyone encountered this problem before and care to teach me how to fix it?

:dunno:

PLease please please....HELP!!!

use psp. :D

see if you can open the same file in other apps or IE. after u uninstall adobe, wipe out the program files->adobe photoshop directory and then reinstall.

Tried starting, re-installing PS, and restarting again. Still same. :(

Are you running out of hard disk space? Scratch disk might be too small.

your harddisk may be full. let us know how much free space do you have?

OK the answers are as follows:

Harddisk has 12 GB of free space. Should be ok right?

Did install updates to Nikon Capture 4.1.2. This is suspect.

Did change Services in Win XP in an effor to optimise performance. This is also suspect. Will try re-starting some services again.

How?

can you open your big files with other viewer? e.g. ulead or acdsee?

I have problem doing the actions on large files too.

Error msg is scratch disk not enough space. But I already specify a 8gb partitioned disk...still not enough?

If I right click on the large image in the file browser and click Open with Image ready, it will open fine in image ready. :embrass:

if its not the hard disk, then its probably the RAM
ctrl+alt+del and check what unnecessary programs are running in the background. terminate all which you need not use and try opening the file again

hope it works

Thanks to all your comments! I managed to solve the problem. :)

All of you who think that the problem was memory or harddisk related, you are right!

My virtual memory was set manually to 4GB since I first bought the computer 6 mths ago and I never changed it. My PS worked fine all this while, until recently when I discovered it broke.

Tonight I thought I just set my virtual memory to auto and see if it helps. Voila, it works!

Still can't explain it though, since I never touched the setting.

Anyways, thanks again to all for the help!
