I'm using the Omni-Bounce OM-EX for my 420EX and G2. When I take shot, there is a smokey kind of effect which turns out in my shots.

Is this normal or am I using it wrongly?

the smoke effect is under expose, you should increase the flash or film compensaton up at least two stop. remenber to shit the flash head 45 degree up

the default position on the flash is 60 degrees. Must it be 45 degrees?

i'm using the G2, how do I compensate?

there's no such thing as a default angle on Canon flashes (dont worry about the markings). Just set the angle u want and fire away.

i don't see why you have to increase exposure manually to compensate for the light lost you should be using TTL or ETTL ...whatever...
Also, shooting it straight on without tilting also produces good results... the quality of light is pretty acceptable.
