help. retrieve loss files in thumbdrive.. help

guys
i needs some urgent help.
i copied some important work files of mine into a thumbdrive...
however i did not eject the USB storage thinking that i was on a XP system...
i realized that the my workplace laptop was a win 2000 pro system...

i dont have the files on the thumbdrive but i am sure it was copied over.
the files are not showing.
is there some recovery program that i can use to get these files back?

if you guys can help me out, that would be great too.

I think if you are sure you've copied the files over and have not rewritten anything on it, you may want to try to search for some freeware that can help to recover your loss file from your thumbdrive much like those that help to recover from your HDD. I've come across such freeware before. You may want to try to find such freeware from http://www.s2services.com/deletedfreeware.htm for starters. Hope this helps. :think:

If i'm not wrong, nothing was copied over. It's written in only when you select remove safely or something. Irritating issue, but that's how it is. Happened to me b4.

even if you are on win xp,you still need to safely remove the device.
You risk losing your files if you did not done so.
For your case,high chances nothing was transfer over.

I did that by pulling out from both XP and 2K systems because I was plain lazy, then I understood the action of selecting "Remove USB device" exists for a reason just like unmounting a drive on a UNIX sys.

This allows the system to clear up all connections to the drive and ends the tasks before allowing you to remove.

Like me, now I believe the files weren't copied over properly and the thumbdrive has now lost file allocations, try doing a 'chkdsk' on it, but don't know if you can get your files back.

Lucky me I had a back up.

actually determined that my lost files are Present ! in the thumbdrive.

My word and excel files are still in there.
however the trial version does not allow me to extract these files.


i am trying some softwares to extract the lost files.
