I just plugged in my SONY mic (which i used previously for my MD recorder) into my laptop, but my sound recorder registered no sound. Can anyone care to explain why this happens although the mic works perfectly fine on my MD? In built mic of the laptop works perfectly fine.

thats bcoz its a condenser mic & requires phantom power.

your notebook mic input cannot provide phantom power.

Oh..means i can't use an external mic with my laptop? unless the mic has built in power?

either that or use a dynamic mic that does not require phantom power.

Did you check your Volume Control panel to make sure that the volume for "Microphone" is not set to Mute?

Yup, it's on..i tested my internal mic before plugging the external mic.

found a way to use my mic. plug my mic into my MD, set to rec mode on MD, link line out to mic jack of laptop and use sound recorder to record...:D :D

Volume control is not the one.
thats for playback volume only.

he needs to go into a drop-down menu & look for recording controls.
where he selects the source. Line-in, mic....
