help on child photo shoot

Hi all,

was just asked by a friend to do a photo shoot for her family... she and her husband and 11mth old.

its like a present to the boy on his 1st birthday..

so its like shoot on their daily outings.

anyone did such shoots?

how do we go about doing it? what are the things to take note?

i will have with me a 17-55mmF2.8, 24-105F4L and 50mm 1.8...

enough? do i need to bring flash?

Does your friend kid like to pose and take photos ? if not, better get something to get his attention while taking photos.

I think 17-55mm + flash is good enuff.

well i have do some on kid photography as i often shoot in bugis and sentosa but the parents love the shot of the moment where the kids are the most happy of the time.......... :sweat: ( risk involved )

well flash might need for the catch light to be in but not a direct flash on to the subject as it will wash out the picture and the msut look out of line of tree and things like the lamp post going through the subject and the background must be less messy to show out your main subject. v

Yes, flash is useful when come to low lighting (indoor or nite photography) and catchlight effect. Get the kid fav toy or object produces sound and mount in front of the your setup to get his attention. Try to take candid, natural and creative composition for the outing.

if it is at outdoor, there are nothing for you to bounce the light from, no walls no ceiling, and the subject is not shooting at close distant, any bounce light devices has little effect, wasting your battery power.

just shoot as normal, outdoor use flash not nice, pls find the sun.....of course choose best timing for it. get the baby attention with items, else u no experience very tough. dun ever think or everything PS, u will regret.

Some themes you can try:

Playtime with siblings if any
Sleep time - the most easy things to shoot
Feeding time - becareful of flying food particles
Fav toys
Bath Time - will need bounce flash to get enuf light in the bathroom
Close up showing parts of the baby
Time with mother and father
Sad Time, when he's crying etc.

I would prefer natural lightings, if indoor, look for windows to provide directional lightings and catchlights. If outdoor, use natural reflector(white walls etc) to provide the catchlights and fill lightings. Big aperature of 1.8-1.4 for shallow DOF for isolating the subject. Provide shots that can only be done with a SLR(e.g. shallow DOF shots) so that it will look different from what normal parents with a P&S can do. The parents will appreciate more.
