HELP my CD-R can't be read on mac or windows XP!!!

hi there, my CD-R was written and write-protected

it's stored for 2-3 years.

but I am not able to retrieve the images i need for my portfolio!!!

please help!

Linux seems to be more reliable when nibbling corrupt data...

I would try Ubuntu booting from USB to try recovery.

Alternative... you could take the CD to a print shop, they may be able to duplicate it for you and if so, onto a USB stick!

This is probably the best bet to read the disc. Worse comes to worse, can always seek a recovery specialist.

i need i need to pay for Pro help... i know a place that provide recovery service.

advice.

don't use CD / DVD for storage.

the DVD drive is fine.

just that the CD-R is read as 0 bits in both my mac and windows OS with the intel mac.

this episode taught me 2 things

i had a problem when i was using a particular software to burn cd-rs a while back.

it worked fine with the computer and software that burnt it.. i think windows ME (millenium edition)? and nero. i might have remembered wrongly.

when i tried to read it up my new laptop (windows vista).. it would also read as a blank cd.

No.1. Try reading it on other cd drives/other coms.
No.2. Clean the cd with cleaning solution/wax.

The key is 'redundancy', regardless which technology. Two different storage media in two different locations.
