Never experienced this with my 7D before.. camera is performing perfectly normal until i could recently hear a high frequency sound ringing against my ears when the shutter button is depressed. It is very subtle and faint (~18000 hz). Unfortunately i have only one lens to try on :(

Check link for sample of sound

haven't experience that on canon lenses before,
but on Nikon, the AF-S lenses when unused for some time, the AF will get squeaky, and it goes away after some use.

I suggest you bring the lens down to CSC to have it checked, and get a quotation if it needs to be fixed.

hmm, I don't think that sound like noise from the IS mechanism
