Help: dust or scratch on lens??

I just bought a 2nd hand lens. With both the front and rear caps taken off and zoomed in to the max, a speck can clearly be seen.

Is this dust or scratch? The thing is that I am unable to see this "speck" in any of the pictures that I have taken so far. I think if it's dust then it's still ok as most likely it can be removed by the servicing centre. But if it's a scratch, then I think cannot be fixed!

Also, any idea if this will affect the pictures?

P.S.: just a side question, any idea why the imaging circle is not round?????

if the dust or scratch isn't that big it should not affect picture quality.

i'm guessing its not a circle because of the alinement of the glass elements.

since u alreadysaid u can't see it in any of the pictures u took, so why bother whether it's dust or elephant?

i had the same problem as you, mine had 2 inside. sent to NSC to had it cleaned.
