No Budget then get D3X.

But it depend you have how many lens suitable for full-frame from your previous dslr.
if not once you buy D700, you still need to invest on lens.

If most of your lens from previous dslr are DX then just buy D300.

buy d700, 24-70mm, SB900, to start with.

I think the D3 may be more suitable, unless if he is shooting studio often. You get better noise performance for a lower cost
