Harddisk Recovery

Think my harddisk crashed. Couldn't startup my computer.
Hadn't been backing up my harddisk for about 3 months.
Any idea of any harddisk recovery service?

Had to use data recovery services before, found that ADRC is quite reliable but can be expensive. Check out http://www.adrc.com.sg/.

Last backup was done in late June. Almost 2 months of photos... mostly taken with the new E-P1.
And my Lightroom Cataglog.... last backup was done half a year ago! :cry:

Have you checked if it's the power supply which is down?

2. Use another computer to access the data from the crashed hard disk.

If you are familar with Linux, you can load Linux in your computer and recover the data from the hard disk.

Note: This will work if your hard disk is not physically damage.

Manufacturer do not recovery data. They will give you a replacement if it's under warranty.

That's what I tried to do in the first place.
Then I realised that the connection is different!!!!

Mine is a Dell. Didn't realised that the harddisk they use are different from the norm.

If your computer is relatively new, it'll probably be using a SATA hard disk.

You can get SATA casing from Sim Lim Square.

If it's a laptop hard disk you can also use a USB to SATA cable to retrive you data.

I see. I guess it might be a SATA.... It is 3.5" harddisk.

You can get something like what Diavonex shown for around $10-$20, check out Chamoxa at Funan (Level 5), or SLS should be a lot of shops doing that.

The kit comes with PSU that power your 3.5" HDD too.

they quote me 1.5k for my 80gb, i'm ok with it.
Until i ask them what if they only managed to retrieve 1% of the data, they say will still be 1.5k since they proceed with it.

you can buy a SATA/IDE to USB convertor for $25 at sls.
can be use on 2.5 and 3.5" hard disk.

is the drive not readable or undetectable when use as external drive? I can do simple format/delete/crash 'brute force' recover.
