ISO 1600, 300mm, f 5.8, 1/350 sec

1. In which area is critique or feedback to be given?
- emotions are somewhat missing, how can i improve on it?
- there's this "halo" thing, especially on the man's head. i don't think it's due to sharpening as it's still there when i tuned sharpen to 0. What is it? :dunno:
- is the cropping of the wife's legs a mistake?
- anything else which you think can help me improve

2. What were you hoping to achieve with this image?
a nice family

3. Under what circumstance was the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
dull weather, pretty far away

4. Thread-starter's personal comments about the image.
- colours were dull, maybe due to weather. i pumped vibrance up a bit in lightroom
- picture rather soft, probably due to noise reduction in pp

Thank you very much for looking! :sweatsm:

Looks a bit like posed picture, however there is some candid element in it.

The presence of the toddler is actually does not contribute anything to the picture, nor as a family.
I would say just the top portion of the couple would be good enough.
The patch of blue in the back grd is distracting.

Ooh, i thought handshake wouldn't be a problem since i was using 1/350 sec. Mm, why is it strange? to use iso1600 and f5.8?

Looks soft, motion blur? or handshake? or you soften everything in ps? ;)

Hmm, looking at my original, it seems to me that it's due to handshake, cropping and noise reduction. Here is the original unprocessed similar shot:

If you have got the leg, then I don't think there's any need to crop the leg...the baby is there to make up the family..if not, the title is called "Happy Couple"...

With 1/350s shuttle speed, I think it is sufficient to minimize shake if you are careful...I think your lens is just soft at 300mm...like mine...:bsmilie:..but tt's pretty normal...

The "Halo" you mentioned on the head is due to noise...that's the region where shadow/something dark seeps in....noise smudge that region there....

Anyway, I think your cropping wasn't as good as the original..

Crop with this title in mind...

" Learning how to shoot "

But that means a lot of space wasted.
