Global growth in digital camera sales slowed substantially last year, and it is expected to remain comparatively modest in coming years, according to a report released Friday by market research firm IDC.

Sony was the leading camera maker for 2001, grabbing the top spot from Olympus with market share of 22 percent. Olympus fell to second place with 19 percent of the market, followed by Fuji with 16 percent and Canon with 12 percent.

Err, suprised that Sony is n1 in market share. more stories here

Kind of like "As long as its from Japan, It has to be from Sony" attitude...
actually i don't think it's limited to overseas people. locals too love the Sony brand. it's not the king of consumer electronics for nothing u know. ;)

most people have the impression that as long as it's Sony, it's good. have u seen Sony's sales volume every year? very scary. it's not just digicams and video cams, there's also hifis, walkmans, VCRs, DVDs and anything with electricity running through it
