Worldwide, there are only 2 of such species and only one is found in South East Asia. In Singapore, they are classified as nationally threatened species and are uncommon resident.

These birds are relatively secretive and mainly crepuscular. It is very easy to miss them as they can hide behind bushes and remain motionless for long period.

We (Harlequin and myself) are lucky to have met a male greater painted-snipe this morning. Posting here to share it with you.

He hides behind some bushes. (Don't be shy shy now, come out.)

The snipe came out from the hidding place after feeling that the coast is clear.

(Thought me saw food!) Extend the bill further to check it out.

Good catch on a rare bird.
Good to have evidence that they can still be found in Singapore. :)
Excellent Job. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments!

Some interesting facts from a book by Morten Strange.

"The female leaves the nest right after laying, leaving the male to incubate the eggs and raise the young."

For this species, the male works real hard indeed!

Wow.. these are really great documentary shots.

A rare find skfoo! May I prechance know that is it discovered near populated regions?

sgnature,

Welcome to The World of Nature forum.

The place is more rural than populated (and not in the park or residential areas). ;)

Cheers!
