I like the mood of this shot too.
there're some distracting elements at the right edge of the photo.
looks like part of a fan and the wall of the living room outside.
maybe can trying burning that area?

it looked pretty dark already for me on my PC monitor, and i proofed it on a Mac as well.
thanks for the recommendation on burning away distracting elements. i would have done so if i had noticed it earlier. just that it really didn't appear to show up on my screens. however, out of curiousity, i boosted the levels in order to find out what it was. the 'fan' is actually those beads which dangle from the door frame.
