Took my daughter's milk bottle to try this on my glass table.

PS: what is the term for such photography? I remember I saw some did by the pro forumers years ago but I am unable to hunt for more information since I don't even know what it is called.

You illuminated it from below? Try to diffuse the light a bit, so it does not show up as a harsh spot.
Using the Commander mode (Nikon), I place the strobe under my glass table.
I am thinking of remaking another over the week probably with a clothe covering the front view this time.

One thing you can try is to use strong daylight energy saving bulbs, 23W or 25W. That way you get an idea how the light will appear, so that you can adjust it before the shot. Else you will have to keep on shooting and adjusting.
