I've read up a little about it and realised that we can use a adapter, however i've no idea what a adapter does and what does the lenses do, can anyone give me some info on it?
Digital cameras comes in three types : compact, prosumer and dSLR.
Adapter allows you to attach different filter to the lens, then you can different effects or use for different purposes. See http://www.thkphoto.com/products/hoya/
Most compact cannot attach filters because it doesn't have threads at the end of the lens. Prosumer, which is what Panasonic FZ-10 would belong to, have threads at the end of the barrel so you can use filters. dSLR can use too.
