I'm assigned to work in Melbourne and Sydney Australia for 2 months.
I'm also planning to bring my wife and my 2 months old baby.
Do you guys know whether the airline will allow me to bring baby for this long trip?

I know this question is totally out of photography interest, but hey, this is kopitiam thread right? I would appreciate your comments or advise.

well.. the best way to find out is to call the airline directly ..
usually they will allow, and you can even request a bassinet to put the baby ..

you better check!!!! ...they might require you to check it in instead of hand carry, cos the baby contains more than 100ml of liquid and I don't think they have such a large transparent bag for that...if not, just fedex it over.

Haha, good one.:bsmilie:

Don't think it's a problem but your baby will not travel for free because he/she is not a "hand luggage". Most airlines charge ~10% of an adult fare.

On a more serious note, it will be mid-winter if you are going soon. Make sure you have enough warm clothing for the infant.

Most airlines would allow any infant that is about 48 hours old to travel. But they also advised you to check with the doc frist.

Fare discounts and booking
We offer discounts for infants and children as follows:

Infants
Infants are those under two years old at the time of travel.
The youngest age an infant can be to travel is 48 hours old. We also advise you to ensure that the treating doctor agrees to the infant travelling.
An infant fare is charged at 10% of the adult fare when the infant does not have his/her own seat, but sits on an adult’s lap.
If you want your infant to sit in his/her own seat (they must be between 6 and 23 months), you will be charged the child fare. This cannot be booked online. Please contact your local British Airways office if you wish your infant to have their own seat. You will need to ensure that you have a suitable car seat or have requested one from us for your child to travel in.
There must be one adult accompanying each infant seated on an adult’s lap.
- if one adult wishes to travel with a second infant, this is only possible if the second infant is aged between 6 and 23 months, he/she must be seated in an approved car-type seat and we will charge the child fare

- if the second infant is under 6 months you must travel with a second accompanying adult or a British Airways escort for which there is a charge

I 2nd that. I think there are too many people here asking for free handouts. And a lot people here are always too willing to give.

I'm worry as well.
I don't think the airline will allow me to bring milk powder and liquid.

Thank you so much Nisa. This really helps.
I called SQ and they allow me to bring my 2 months old baby.

JoeJerry, why couldn't you have just been as resourceful as Nisa and just do your own homework?

It's worse than RTFM syndrome.

Sorry if I disturb everybody here.

:nono: what's wrong with asking for help? The world is not just a person, it's a GROUP of people. I think it's good to be able to open one's mouth and ask for help!

Thanks. I bought some infant winter clothes already.

Mate, thank you for ever being so polite. It is much appreciated. I am also glad you did not raise to the baitings of some members here who seem more interested in posting off the cuff/thoughtless remarks without even thinking about what he has to say.

This is a community and there is nothing wrong asking. If you think you are above helping or can't be bothered to assist, then you are better off learning to refrain from making curt remarks here that have no place in here.

Hi JoeJerry

Congrats on your new add. to the family.

As your child is only 2 mths old, I think you better check with your child's baby doctor first.
Let him know the expected weather there and how long you'll be there. You can perhaps get some common med. from him to bring along, ie for fever/cough/etc base on what your doc may recommand. Another good pre-prep to do is to find a good baby doc in Aust. near where you'll be staying just in case. You should also bring your child's health booklet along. Bear in mind that a 2mths old baby's immune systems is still rather weak.

Cheers.

I have big concern with this as well and considering whether to go there alone or bring my family. Hopefully I can survive for not seeing him for 2 months ..

Thanks Wolfgang,

I don't blame them as it is indeed my mistake.
I should have called the airline for confirmation earlier.
Some member here are helping and I appreciate their comments.

I think you also need to consider if your wife can cope with a new baby on her own in Aust for 2 mths. Post natal blues can start to set in anytime once the mother starts to feel stress and can't cope. If that do happen, it will affect you and in turn, your work will suffer. Please do consider carefully. If you think you'll miss your baby, set up a webcam.
