Hi guys,

If you are going genting, will u be carrying ur Camera's bag @ Genting ??? Or put it in a normal bag? As JB got lots of robbers , genting might have.

If possible, don't bring an expensive camera.

If you have to, you can do what I did when I last when there, that is, use a normal backpack and line it with some foam inlays and you're set to go...

Genting is ok, just be careful as it is more likely to be stolen if you leave it in the room or left unattended, have not heard of daylight robbery up there, more like petty thefts. However if you drive, the carpark can be a little dark and secluded, but they do have guards doing regular rounds, but then you never really know if the guards are trustworthy.

Love the cool up there, and there are some cool photo opportunities......
the first 30 plus picts on this gallery were taken in Genting.

they do not rob cameras
they rob casino winners who have won hundreds of thousands $ or Million $$$
and there are criminal spotters in the crowd to identify the target
when the winners go home on the way, cars may block their way and guns drawn
not sure if casino can overcome this by banking into your account electronically so you do not carry cash.
but robbers can kidnap you and beat you half dead to force you to withdraw the money from your account
well, that's ......(country name)
a politician there insists they do not have serious crime problem:bsmilie:

by the way, this is why Singapore's IRs are so attractive.
crime under control so safe for high rollers to gamble

If going to Genting I wouldn't bring my camera let alone camera bag.

The place is full of man-made stark boring structures which I do not see anything interesting to lift a camera.

KL Chinatown has more photo opportunities but lesser fast money-making opportuntities as in Genting.

Leave camera at home and bring a bigger wallet instead. :bsmilie:

They do not have crime problems. They only have problems with the casino robbers. :bsmilie:

I'm going there by coach.. Cos i intend to capture this pic alone, my b/f will go for his casino. then i won't be wasting my time there... waiting for him...

is it unsafe ?

ok, i shall hide my camera inside my backpack. I though of buying SB-600 , eh...if were u, will u bring or just bring one cam + 1 len will do???

to be safe.. i think bring one lens cover all the range would be good... kit lens is good enough... :)

when i was in msia. i think i spend more time worrying about my camera den my own saftey because pple keep looking at my camera and lens... esp when i was in KL..

haha.. yea .. i was thinking of that too...

Went there recently by coach. I used a crumpler-lookalike bag. There are lots of nice stuff to shoot like the theme park, indoor and outdoor, and if weather is good, some mountain and clouds shots. For safety, stay at places where there are people around and not venture into some quiet corners. Can see my pics here

One thing is never to make eye contact with any suspicious characters who just seem to hang around doing nothing...and perhaps avoid dark corners, ....just be alert. But then I am speaking from a guys' perspective, a lady may have to be more careful, as they may have an eye on the person holding the camera...just stick with the crowded places. BTW they do rob coaches on the NS Highway these days, so chances of being rob on the way there is higher than up there. Anyway, some rooms have very nice views, but sometimes fog covers everything.

hmmm...been there...done tat...but i neber took out my d70 on my way to genting highlands...only used a80...

started shootin' with my d70 when i'm at genting highlands...

try wakin' up early to catch the nice sky...lots of flowers n insects for macro / close-up too...

wah lau...you make malaysia sound like some gun totting town like that....

relax lah...it is not that bad. Genting is where I live.. I walk around macam tourist like that. never have problems...

I'm also going to K.L walk walk, shop shop, eat, eat. I plan to bring my dSLR with a 18-125mm lens. Carrying a Lowepro TZ2. Tat should be ok & not too flashy isn't it? Not sure...

if your plan to shoot then must bring camera, right?
you might want to bring along a mono pod for lower light situations
and as an Effective Crime Deterrent

went genting with my dslr end of last year.. but don't seems to see anyone carrying a dslr around. all compact cams.
just got to be careful of quiet spots.
love the cool weather there!
