It is a protocol which let you use a mail client to download the mail to your PC...
example: Microsoft Outlook Express

Not sure if anyone of you know, but Gmail has been blocking .zip/exe attachments, for fear of virus attacks.

That's why I couldn't receive some of the attachments my friends sent.

help:
I configured gmail to use in my microsoft outlook.
But i can only recieve mail but cannot send email from outlook, anyone know the reason?
My incoming mail server :　pop.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com

Why bother sending using Gmail SMTP ? just use your ISP SMTP server ... its much faster.

As you will need authentication first before you can use Gmail's SMTP [as they are not those open relay SMTP server]
