8X zoom? Optical? or combined with digital?

If optical zoom, there ain't many cameras that can do 8x optical zoom or greater.

Olympus C730UZ = 3MP, 10X (optical) (newer C740Uz, and C750Uz coming), Flash mount = No

*Olympus C-2100UZ = 2MP, 10X (optical), flash mount = no

Panasonic DMC-FZ1 = 2MP, 12X (optical), flash mount = no

*Casio QV-2900UX = 2MP, 8X (optical), Flash mount = no

*Canon Pro 90 IS = 2MP, 10X (optical), flash mount = no

*Minolta DiMAGE 5 = 3MP, 7x (optical), Flash mount = yes (hot shoe)

'*' denotes Discontinued models

Going by the 3-4MP and assuming 8X optical zoom requirements, the cam that can fit the specs closest is perhaps the C-730UZ.

Though the $600-$750 budget will be difficult to get it brand-new. unless the C-740UZ and C-750Uz induce a price drop.

P.S. I guess these cameras are way off your budget
Minolta DiMAGE 7i,7Hi = 5MP, 7x (optical), flash mount = yes (hot shoe)

Nikon Coolpix 5700 = 5MP, 8X (optical), Flash mount = yes (hot shoe)
