Some may list as "well taken care of" or even "pampered" but got one big crack, and price higher than street norm for pre-owned item.

Some may list as "like new or mint" but got holes! and price close to brand new from shop.

Some seller may say condition 10 on one aspect (eg cosmetics) but item got faults elsewhere.

Buyers beware.

Check prices first!

Maybe more worthwhile to buy brand new!

Ok, thanks for the reminder.

Though I must say most people with common sense would actually do their homework.. So what you can do to make a difference is constantly educate the people around you and remind them to do so. :)

yes please check prices. Don't after buying, come here complain about the seller

I agree.
Maybe this can also be posted in the BnS section.
Can't stand people posting their 2nd hand items for sale, but price is not really 2nd hand.
Unfortunately we can reply to the sellers' thread to warn others.

It can be potentially chaotic if everyone is commenting on each others' BnS threads.
Best to check prices, nth too difficult by googling and asking shops.
Recently i was quoted 400 for a 480 lens, sometimes topping up some amt (80) for warranty and brand new condition is not really more exp than 2nd hand prices.

yup i think so too, price in bsn is horrible. selling price there is not much different from new 1, and without warranty too.. so buyer please becareful =) do more homework

yup true..

the price different between used and new (sometime I see) only $20-$30 with NO warranty..

While we can't keep sellers from overpricing or misrepresenting their items... what we can do is to walk away from the deal harmoniously if we feel uncomfortable with it. Most importantly is to research, read, ask and check carefully.

Nikon 50mm 1.8G is only 290 brand new from shop. Smell like new car.

Got people selling $300 used on BNS. Probably got his armpit smell too.

Still worded in a haughty manner.

Buyers beware.

He must he high on drugs when he quoted this price....

Don't forget that warranties are quite tricky to transfer as well. So a 15 month warranty might not be valid once transferred to a new owner. Buyers of used stuff have faced this problem before. Caveat emptor.

LOL @ armpit smell hahahaha..

If your lucky you can get a good price. Haha.

Issit! Aiyah! I just bought from TK Foto at $285 ($290 actually as I pay with credit card).

BTW just a headsup for anyone looking, I saw lotsa $400++ Nikon 35mm f/2 on BNS; a certain popular pre-owned shop in Peninsula Plaza is selling the 35mm f/2 at $368 only, condition looks superb and maybe they have their own shop warranty.

Seriously, BNS prices should be better deal than the pre-owned shops out there as its supposed to be a photographer-help-photographer thing plus there is no accountability like a shop have, but it seems like not so.

BnS is just people listing to sell or buy. Some prices are negotiable, some are not. For buyers, you always have the option to not buy from a certain individual if you think the price is not right. No need to get all worked up over it.
