Gaffer Tape your Tripod

Is it ideal to gaffer tape tripod legs? Or is it up to one's preference? Any benefits or disadvantages?

Gaffering the top section is fine. but not for the bottom sections.

I use a tennis racket grip (Wilson) on one leg of my tripod to allow easier handling of the tripod during freezing weather.

Depends.

I usually wants to take good care of my equipment, so I gaffer my tripod.
I have seen one photographer who use plastic PVC tubing for his tripod just to protect it.

If you are those who can't stand a single scratch on the tripod legs, by all mean gaffer them.
