G2 and 420EX

Was wondering if you guys that use the above has the same experience:

When I Use the 420EX with my EOS300, the flash will take over the focus assist function. But when connect to the G2, the AF assist light comes from the G2 not the flash....

Comments?

i dun think the G2 supports the focus assist function of the 420EX........the G1 for sure does NOT support focus assist on the flash...
