Fungal Stains on my slide scans

Hi all,

I recently scanned some old slides and was horrified to learn that due to poor upkeep, there were blue blotches caused by fungus growing on the slides.

I need pointers or direction on how I can use Photoshop to remove them. Can anyone help? I tried healing and spot healing but no luck.

Sorry it took so long. Here it is. Everyone is welcome to take it and see what they can do with it. But please tell me what you did as I would love to learn. I am familiar with layers, masking, healing, curves etc so don't hold back on the technicalities.

I have the time, I have the patience. I need the technique. What tools to you propose? Clone? Heal? Spot healing?

Anybody can help onnot? This picture has a lot of sentimental value...:cry:
