From buffer then CF card?

I would like to know if I should buy a Microdrive since it's more affordable. Wonder how the camera's performance will be affected. Is it true that my D70 writes to a built in memory before it writes onto the CF or MD? So I can still shoot in bursts until buffer fills before it depends on the CF or MD writing speed?

Yes, the camera writes to buffer first. However, you'd have to wait for the camera to flush the buffer before you can review your pics. That's where people notice the difference between cards of diff speeds.
