Hmm how about a tighter crop leaving more of the pool out ?

I like the hug in the first photo, but I think what would make it click is to take it in portrait, crop tighter and have the kids looking at the camera... maybe make it b&w too.

Attract the attention of the kids.... (they then to have a shorter attention span). some fill flash to put those catch lights in their eyes?
