"VISITORS to the Singapore Flyer on Friday will get a surprise view - of urban climber Alain Robert scaling the world's tallest observatory wheel.

At 6pm, the French 'Spider-Man', who has tackled more than 100 structures around the world without safety equipment in the past eight years, will become the first person to attempt to climb around the 471.3m circumference of the revolving wheel.

The climb will last 30min, as long as a ride on the 42-storey-high attraction.

The stunt is the highlight of the first Mettle Games, the largest extreme sports festival held here.

While this will be the fourth time the 48-year-old has tried to scale a building in Singapore, it will be his first climbing a circular, moving structure.

In 2000, he was arrested midway up the 63-storey OUB Centre, which he was climbing illegally. He was released with a warning. Mr Robert was invited by companies to climb up Great World City in 1997 and Suntec City's Tower One in 2008.

Those with telephoto might be interested to snap some shots. It is not everyday that you see a man clinging on the exterior of the flyer. :)
