Ha Ha ha, my favourite team won. Also the way that Michael held off Fernandon, it was just pure mastery of a driver. In the same way that Alonso held Michael off last year in the very same race. TIT FOR TAT! That's how racing should be:thumbsup:

Actually, I've seen this mirrored lollipop since last year. :)

Hahaha din notice. :bsmilie: Last year's pits was boring with the tyre restrictions.

great battle between MSC and ALO...
MSC did not break under pressure and the circuit is notoriously difficult to overtake due to the sequence of corners/chicanes and the very narrow track.
Pit-stop antics of Honda's crew - poor Button :thumbsd: :thumbsd:
McLarens where are you guys????!!!!!:embrass:

Overall great result if you are a Ferrari fan. Anti-red viewerswill whine as usual :bsmilie:
As for me I enjoyed the battle.. MSC was fantastic in holding off ALO. controlling the pace by changing racing line, braking early, changing speed mid-corner.. Experience counts ;)

MSC did a great job managing his fuel consumption to squeeze in another lap before his second stop

seriously, i see no ferrari come-back this yr. More so after this race. If i may explain, this is THE ferrari + bridgestone track. Looking at how Schmi is being hunted down after such a big gap in the opening, looking at how weirdly bridgestone went off after 1st pit stop...
I really think unless they made some serious progress, and again, I think not, coz these few yrs, Ferrari seems to hv lost its aggressive development program of yester-years, instead, opting for conservative evolution approach. I think i'm glad ferrari will not be challenging much this yr (not exactly my fav team due to its driver & policy).

On the other hand, Mclaren seems to hv shaken off its unreliable tag. reliabiliity seems to be up there with Renault (main challenger) this yr. now, they just need to get JPM to be less reckless. I think they'll be serious contending for contructor. Remember their budget is twice that of renault, so assuming all things equal, they'll develop their car faster than renault (as had shown to happen from history)

neither can we write honda off. remember the glory years they hv. now, they just need a good car.... will see them take-off in a major fashion.

Unfortunately, renault hv Alonso. He's smart, he's willing to adapt, willing to learn. And he's tough! as long as renault stays reliable, alonso may still deliver this yr for drivers championship. Current point system makes a 15pt gap too tough to close

Not sure if you guys were hearing the same commentary as I, but Alonso was backed up by the second Ferrari driven by Felipe Massa during the first round of pit stops. That is part of the reason why Michael Schumacher was able to stride away in the early stages.

One bright lining on the cloud that covers the Ferrari win is that the Ferrari kept their lead at the start this time around, for a long time it seemed that nothing could beat the Renault launch, while the Ferrari one was bogging down all the time. But I suppose we are back to manual launching now and that could be the reason. It used to be that the Renaults could make up a few places at the start, never mind if they did not qualify well.

For much of the race Alonso had the better car, though the lap times suggest that the first and second cars were very close to each other (remember that Alonso blitzed his way up on a clear track to nose up to the Ferrari). Trading blow for blow, Ferrari may not bring home the driver's title but it would sure be a great fight to the finish because of the even matchup. However this is Ferrari's home track, essentially home ground, they have to deliver. It was scrappy but they came away with both fastest qualifying, first and fourth places.

Honda seems always waiting in the wings, threatening with occasional flashes of brilliance, while there are other specialist teams in the grid (Toyota's powerful cars come to mind) that will do well in certain tracks.

I think the Jap teams (Honda and Toyota) are kind of set up for a 1 great qualifying lap and once they are there they sought get overwhelm by the McLaren, Renaults and Ferraris.
Kind of anti-climax as they seems unable to maintain any sustained challenge in any given race. Maybe a podium finish once in a while but never a top 5 or 6 finish for any 2 consecutive race.
I wonder is it the car or the drivers?

Yes. No need commentary, its obvious Massa held them up. Tht's why i nvr like team ferrari. Its not a racers team.

BTW, its back to manual launch? I tot always hv been manual launch except for one yr. meaning, its had been for a few yrs where driver just need to release their clutch. The traction control is still around isnt it?

My opinion for honda & toyota? its the drivers. traditionally this few yrs, u can see honda likes their car to be handled in a gentle manner. kinda weird (IMO) for a racing car. rubino sort of confirms this suggestion this yr when he commented abt honda car (ie, to be driven gently). toyota is just too "new" to get anr quality driver. They paid tons for someone like ralf who is at best, just an average driver. hopefully they'll get someone better come 2008.

I just had an interesting tot that I felt tht i must come back here to post it.

maybe toyota shd go for JPM.. hhaha. then ralf & JPM beccome teamie beanie again...muahahah. These 2 hate each other. At least u know u're getting someone faster than ralf. plus u know JPM will drive ur car to the limit, 2 yrs down the road, toyota will hv cars like a tank

Imola is one of the worst tracks for motor-racing. SOOO narrow, no long straight. If w/o Alo hunting Schu or other way round (last yr), it'll be dead boring. prior to 2004 was super boring. if on another track, the Alo Vs schu will even be more interesting, Alo will come very close to overtaking for several laps, as the master-of-blocking Schu will try his best to block him, and in the end Alo will get pass (ie Suzuka 2005) etc.

Incidentally, Suzuka 2005 is one of my fav GPs ever. Kimi won the race after starting dead last, and past fisi on the final run down into the final lap and passing fisi ON THE OUTSIDE. I've an A1-sized poster of that passing. The only thing fitting left would be a world championship. Ron Dennis better work hard, else I'll fire him!

Monaco how? :bsmilie: Imola used to have a long sweeping high speed corner. They convert it into a chicane after Ayton Sennia crash and pass away. Many of the older tracks are like this.

If you like high speed, look out for Monza and canadian gp.

its not abt high speed, its about opportunity to overtake, difficulty of corners to push drivers into mistakes etc etc. Eau rouge, or turn 8 at Turkey, suzuka R130, etc.

for monaco, minimal overtaking opportunities, its about the drivers' skill to avoid the barriers etc.

anyhow, i watch every single GP... :)

F1 is not only about drivers remember. Its a team sport. Circuit like monaco , imola etc are very testing for the team's skills and tactics and pit strategy. Alonso did make mistakes chasing Shumi. He end up a couple of car lengths behind.

Its not possible to overtake in Monaco. can only wait for mistakes.

I still dun quite understand how come from V10 -> V8, then suddenly more overtaking opportunities.

Looks good. But wonder how K. Raikonnen will feel to be the second fiddle to M. Schumacher. Ferrari has always favoured heavily towards M. Schumacher.

Montoya  or Webber..
If they managed to get Alonso, next year will be Toyota year ;) Unfortunately, we all know this will not happen..

As for this year, it will be Renault year (they have the fastest car and using Michelin tyres).. their car is around 2 sec faster than Ferrari in the last race.. after the 1st pitstop.
Next year when all teams are using Bridgestone tyres, they will not have any advantage anymore..
