Hey guys and gals,

Please offer some advice on focusing. I have some troubles focusing on certain subjects for example small flowers thus resulting in blur images(not due to shaky hand). Can explain the logic/principles behind it? Sometimes my autofocus will work on the same subject while at times it simply fails.
I am using Canon Powershot G2.

For the G2, your macro distance is quite a bit. Check your manual.

you need to enable macro mode for close-up shots. there's still a min distance you have to be away before you can focus though.

I must agree G2 is not very good for close up shots. Are there other factors other than the camera focal length?

The minimum focussing distance will determine how close you can focus. Engaging the macro mode will reduce this. So far, the 2 cameras that can focus very close to the subject are the Coolpix 9xx series and the Casio 2900.
