This pic uses flash but is out of focus.

No flash, hence a bit dark. How to increase the brightness?

Hmmm, let me try
the first one is too light while the second one is too dark. For the first one, maybe try not to use flash but set the EV higher? and the aperture higher too so it focus on the flower in the foreground.
The second one must also set the EV higher.
