Hi all,

Would like to seek advice if I should buy a hot shoe flash adapter for my Sony a330 so that I can use Nissin/Metz flash since they do not have models for Sony dslr or should I just get a flash with Sony mount instead?

I've heard that if I use the hot shoe adapter then there will be no TTL function available right?

TIA.

It would be in full manual... I suggest just going for the original Sony flashes. Go to MS Color, get a good deal. :)

Hmm.. Wondering if anyone tried using an adapter before?

How was your experience with it? :embrass:

You would just need to learn how to properly use your flash and get the exposure right.

You will still be able to fire it. But flash power will not be adjusted for you.

However, you can buy some flashes that can go auto mode, but not TTL. Those will have some sort of auto, but it will not take note of your focal length or distance to subject, aperture... etc.. unless you set it yourself. Read more here: http://photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00E6m5

Forgot to add.

If you already have some old flashes in your possession you want to try, it is worth a try.

If you haven't purchased a flash, do not bother going that route, spend a bit more and get a Sony flash.

Recently I managed to chance upon this flash sold by a fellow forummer:

Was thinking if I should get it as the angles for this flash is pretty good! Hee..

Worth testing, but other than the mini-flash at the front, the other "angles" are pretty standard for a flash.

If you want to try it for the sake of that mini flash in front, I think you can get sort of similar effect using a bounce card.
