flash technology

guys...
i used to think that natural light will be best to use for shooting and flash will just cause superfacial looks..
now i saw many pple use flash to produce wonderful pictures... i wanna learn how to use them in right way...

any resources, website that i can pick up this? so far my experience is just to use the build-in flash on the slr when light is not enough... i heard of guide number, flash exposure compensation, but really know nothing about them... :dunno:

well, i don't know much..

but i can tell you that, 420ex (i used it before) produces the effect quite naturally... as in no hard light effect, on my 300d. but the in built flash of the camera sucks..

so i wonder that makes a difference...

u take the guide number divide by the distance,that will give u ur aperture.stop down one stop if u just need a fill.
GN is usually given in ISO100,for ISO200 x1.4 ISO400 x 2
ie: GN40 / 8ft distance = 5 so ur aperture is F5.6 for fill is F8

btw, one model will only have 1 fixed GN, right?

The guide number rating is the maximum output power of the flash.

GN/Aperture = effective distance
