Flash Questions

What will happen if

1) Program Mode:
On Camera - Set -2 Stop exposure
On Flash - Flash Set to +2 Stop

2) Program Mode:
On Camera - Set Flash compensation -2 Stop
On Flash - set compensation +2Stop

3) TV or AV mode:
On Camera - Set -2Stop exposure
On Flash - Flash set to +2 Stop

Objective of above questions is generally to get an overall soothing look for a scene when you have back lighting or a nite scenary....

Manual flash flash wins.
but I think might have diffs for diff systems,
so what's yours?
film cam?

soothing look is usually non-P modes to get slowsync, esp Canon.

I am using eos5 with 540EZ..

cos I have tried with D30 before with 550EX

no matter what flash compensation I used on the 550EX, (no compensation made on the cmaera body)....

i get the same exposure...???? confused liao..Ü:dunno:

I believe for no. 2, the final exposure for the flash is +2 stops.
Cos if you set the flash compensation at -2 stops, the flash will automatically set at -2 first. But when you set it at +2 on the flash later, it will be set at +2.

I'm not sure for the EOS 5, but on my EOS 3, I have 2 LED indicator on my exposure meter to show me my current camera exposure as well as flash esposure.

does this mean ur camera is -2 for exposure compensation or flash compensation?

if for exposure then it will mean that the background will be darker than usual (ie with proper metering), and your foreground which is hit by the flash, is rather bright at +2.

if i am not wrong, depending on brand, this would cancel out each other? this one not sure
but i woudln't recommend setting compensation at two places, just set at one place. i usally do all compensations on the camera and leave the flash itself to 0. this would make things easier to control.

again the qn is whether the camera is on exposure compensation or flash compensation....

if its a back lighted scene, then you will need fill flash to get ur backlit subject lighted, unless u're into sillouhettes.
