Hi,

Asking a newbie question with regards to Flash

As I am being "arrowed" to be the photographer for my company DnD.

My director is passing me his 5D MKII to take photograph.

I am afraid the lighting in the ballroom is not bright enough to shoot.

Am I able to use a EX 580 MKI on it?

Lastly any pointers for the camera setting for taking photograph.

The location is the ballroom at Hilltop Garden at Bukit Batok.

Thanks

Yes, do use a flash. You probably should read this: http://www.planetneil.com/tangents/flash-photography-techniques/

Sure you can use EX 580, but then 5D MK II is a full frame, and which lens you going to use? If you are using 17-40 lens, the image outcome for a FF and APC-S is very different. If you expect the equivalent of 17-40 result, perhaps you need a 28-70 lens of a FF.

And also, with such body, they expect good results, so need lots of practice.

Good luck.

Best to use a flash with a omnibouce. Set to Manual mode. 1/60 iso 400-800 f5.6, adjust accordingly. This should allows for clear group shots. Nothing fancy but gets the job done.

Dun an event at the location mentioned. 580 EX2 should be sufficient.
You may take the following settings for your reference.

ISO400 - 800
1/60 - 1/100 (Depends on the subject movement & the focal length used)
f4 - f8 (Depends on the subject in focus)
If daring used manual, rather then ETTL - 1/8 (estimate)
