嫦娥三号 (Chang'e 3) / 玉兔 (Jade Rabbi) final preparation underway for powered descent and approach onto Sinus Iridum (Bay of Rainbows), possibly within the vicinity of the Laplace A crate. Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) on targeted Landing Site (LS) upon completion of the terminal landing and free descent phase is 2013-12-14 T 21:30 +8 (UTC +8 / SST).

This will be the first soft landing on the lunar surface since the Lunik 24 / Luna 24 (Ye-8-5M series) mission in August 1976 thus cementing the People's Republic of China (PRC) position as only the third nation to have ever done so in the history's book.

Successful touchdown on landing site at approximately 2013-12-14 T 21:30 +8 (UTC +8 / SST) after a 720 seconds deceleration burn from 嫦娥三号 (Chang'e 3) Attitude Control System (SCS) 10 to 150 Newtons thruster modules and subsequent ignition of the 1,500 to 7,500 Newtons main descent engine till four meters above the surface.

* Update: 嫦娥三号 (Chang'e 3) solar panels deployed, preparation underway for 玉兔 (Jade Rabbi) deployment in T - 8 hours.

With an international cooperative support from the European Space Agency Operations Centre (ESA / ESOC): Estrack Network Control Centre (ENCC) in Darmstadt, Germany. Trajectory telemetry during powered descent, approach, terminal landing and free descent phases of the 嫦娥三号 (Chang'e 3) as obtained by the New Norcia Station (NNS), 35 metre in diameter Deep Space parabolic Antenna - 1 (DSA - 1) with empirical / raw data fed measurements calculated using the Delta - Differential One Way Ranging (Delta - DOR) navigation technique positioned the landing site of 嫦娥三号 (Chang'e 3) at the eastern section of its landing corridor within the Mare Imbrium (Sea of Showers) basin between the Le Verrier and Montes Recti crater, instead of at Sinus Iridum (Bay of Rainbows) as originally planned.

Go for 玉兔 (Jade Rabbi) deployment at approximately 2013-12-14 T 01:30 +8 (UTC +8 / SST) to finally set the 玉兔 (Jade Rabbi) lose on the lunar surface, additional system readiness checks and tests in progress.

Seeing that image, the first thing that comes to mind is "where are all the conspiracy theorists who said the USA moon landing pic is fake because you can't see stars in them?" - these people obviously not being photographers who understand dynamic range...

She had married an American, settled down, had a few kids, grown old, put on some weight and now lives in the Bronx.

I would imagine that it should be pretty bright on the surface during the lunar day which lasts 354 hours. Apollo astronauts have to pull the gold plated visor and additional sunshades down on their A7L spacesuit or risk burning their face up from the extreme ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

玉兔 (Jade Rabbit) is off looking for carrots, white balanced version at bottom as screen captured directly from China National Space Administration (CNSA), Beijing Aerospace Command and Control Center (BACCC).

Would the rabbit bring the carrots back to earth for further analysis?
 

Of course! In the name of science and environmental protection. LOL. Like what they are doing in Antarctica too.
They hv many mouths to feed too, you know. LOL.
