any idea how to check the firmware on ur camera? does flashing the same firmware twice will do any harm to the cam?

Checking the firmware version on the camera--RTFM. It differs from camera to camera, but mostly it's accessible somewhere in the camera setup menu.
Flashing the same firmware twice--no harm at all. Why do you think it will? Your camera's flashable ROM is somewhat like your rewriteable thumbdrive. No fear.
